Our Story

私たちのこと

GBDI was started by the Awata family — Kentaro and his wife, Australians living in Tokyo. In Australia, taking your well-mannered dog to a café, a restaurant, or even a pub is completely normal. When the Awatas moved to Japan, they couldn't understand why such a dog-loving country made it so hard to bring a calm, well-trained dog anywhere.

GBDIは、東京在住のオーストラリア人夫妻——阿波多健太郎とその奥さまが立ち上げました。オーストラリアでは、お行儀のいい犬をカフェやレストラン、パブに連れていくのは当たり前。こんなに犬好きの多い日本で、しつけの行き届いた犬をどこにも連れていけないのが不思議でした。

They met other dog owners with the same wish, and café owners who said they'd love to welcome dogs — they just wanted to know the dog would be calm. So Kentaro started writing it down: a few things everyone would like to see in a dog at a café, a card to make introductions easier, and a small community to connect the two sides.

同じ気持ちの飼い主さんや「お行儀さえ良ければ歓迎したい」というお店のオーナーに出会い、 Kentaroがメモを取り始めました。カフェで見たいちょっとした振る舞い、紹介を楽にするカード、そして飼い主さんとお店をつなぐちいさなコミュニティ。それがGBDIです。

That's all this is — bringing a bit of Australian dog culture to Japan, one café at a time. No bureaucracy, no pretense. Just good dogs, welcoming venues, and a bit of trust in between.

オーストラリアのドッグカルチャーを、ひとつずつ日本に持ち込む。堅苦しさも気取りもなく、マナーのいい犬と歓迎してくれるお店、そしてあいだの「ちょっとした信頼」を育てるだけです。

What we do

やっていること

1. A friendly meet-and-greet / お散歩がてらのご挨拶

We spend about 30 minutes with you and your dog in a relaxed setting. We chat, we watch your dog being themselves, we have a good time. That's it.

リラックスした場所で30分ほど一緒に過ごします。世間話をして、わんちゃんの様子を見せてもらうだけです。

2. Member Cards / メンバーカード

A numbered Member Card for you and your dog — a little something to make introductions at partner venues easier.

番号入りのメンバーカードをお渡しします。提携店でのご挨拶がちょっとスムーズになります。

3. Partner venues / 提携店ネットワーク

Cafés, restaurants, and hotels who've told us they'd love to welcome well-mannered dogs. They decide their own rules — we just make the introduction.

「マナーのいいわんちゃんならぜひ」と言ってくださるカフェ・レストラン・ホテル。ルールは各店舗が決めます。私たちはご縁をつなぐだけです。

4. A little safety net / 小さな安心

We're arranging a liability plan so that if something small happens at a partner venue, nobody is left holding the bag.

提携店で万一のことがあった時のために、賠償責任の備えを準備中です。

One small note

ひとつだけ

GBDI is a private membership club — a small community project, not a public authority or a working-dog program. Our Member Card is a friendly introduction, not a legal pass, and every partner venue always decides who they welcome.

GBDIは民間の会員制クラブで、ちいさなコミュニティの取り組みです。公的機関でもなければ、働く犬のプログラムでもありません。メンバーカードは気持ちのいいご挨拶のきっかけであって、法的な通行証ではありません。
