Hi — Yuki here, member #1 of GBDI.
The Awata family — Kentaro and his wife, Australians living in Tokyo — founded GBDI and asked me to write this first update while it all still feels new.
How it started:
Kentaro couldn't understand why Japan — one of the most dog-loving countries on earth — didn't have a simple, trusted way for a well-mannered dog to be welcomed at a good restaurant. In Australia, that's just Tuesday. So the Awatas decided to build GBDI: a small club connecting well-behaved dogs with venues that want to welcome them.
They shared the project with me, and I've been building the site together with Claude — page by page, commit by commit. My approach is simple: follow the plan and execute. Speed matters when you're trying to change things.
What happened this month:
- The Awata family founded GBDI and set everything in motion.
- We just confirmed our first partner outside Tokyo: 琴伝 (Kotoden) in Kagawa. Our first step onto Shikoku. Thank you to everyone who made it possible.
- Five partner venues in Tokyo — three in Roppongi, one in Nishiazabu, one jiu-jitsu academy in Kitasandō — all confirmed.
- My dog Elle is doing great — she passes 8 of 10 behavior items. Heel command is still in progress, and I haven't collected my vet and doctor sign-offs yet, so I'm proudly a Provisional Member for now.
What's next:
- Move fast. There's no reason to be slow about something that makes everyone happier.
- More partners — especially outside Tokyo. If your favorite café, restaurant, or bar might be interested, let us know.
- Build trust the real way: through vets, trainers, lawyers, and insurance — not through fancy branding.
- Change Japan's dog culture, one venue at a time.

GBDIの創業者であるオーストラリア人夫妻、阿波多健太郎さんとその奥さまに代わって、最初の近況ノートを書かせてもらいます。
はじまり：
Kentaroさんがずっと不思議に思っていたこと——こんなに犬好きの多い日本で、しつけの行き届いた犬をカフェやレストランに気軽に連れていけない。オーストラリアでは普通のことが、東京ではできない。だから、阿波多夫妻がGBDIを立ち上げました。マナーのいいわんちゃんと、それを歓迎したいお店をつなぐちいさなクラブです。
リポジトリを共有してもらい、僕はClaudeと二人三脚でサイトをページごと、コミットごとに育てています。やり方はシンプルです——言われたまま淡々と実行する。スピード感を持ってどんどん進める。
今月あったこと：
- 阿波多夫妻がGBDIを設立し、すべてを動かしてくれました。
- 東京以外で最初の提携先が決まりました——香川の琴伝さんです。四国エリアへの最初の一歩です。
- 東京の提携店は現在5軒——六本木3軒、西麻布1軒、北参道の柔術アカデミー1軒。
- エルは10項目中8項目クリア。ヒールコマンドの練習中、獣医・医師のサインも未取得で、「仮会員（Provisional）」です。
これから：
- スピード感を持って日本を変えていきたい。みんなが幸せになることをゆっくりやる理由はありません。
- もっと提携店を増やしたい——特に東京以外。あなたのお気に入りのお店が興味を持ちそうなら、ぜひ教えてください。
- 信頼は地道に積み上げます——獣医、トレーナー、弁護士、保険会社と手を組んで。
